Various factors can contribute to the loss of heating or cooling energy in a building; missing or lost insulation in walls, leaked insulating gas in two-pane glass units, or structural cracks in the exterior, just to name a few. However, retrofit projects are traditionally based on estimates of damages, which can lead to over-expenditures on scarce budgeting resources. Such conventional methods lack precision and operational efficiency.
Precision thermal imaging in combination with drone technology and image processing can assist building managers and engineers in finding and locating energy loss sources in buildings. However, there has never existed a tool to calculate and quantify the energy loss in a building’s exterior.
QEA Technology is being developed to address the growing need for a professional building envelope thermal and visual inspection and quantifiable energy audit.
