Prefabrication – the concept of offsite manufacturing and assembly that combines quality control, material efficiency, safety with speed of construction while addressing skilled labour shortages. Sounds like a dream come true. But how does one provide for all of these benefits and create an effective building envelope? This presentation will review the history of prefabricated modular building envelopes, the various existing types and point the way to the future where urban densification is pushing construction higher as regulatory bodies are placing greater demands on building envelope performance to tackle the climate crisis.

Speakers

Don Delaney, P.Eng.
Director of Engineering, Flynn Group of Companies

Don Delaney is responsible for all aspects of application engineering at the Flynn Group of Companies, a total building envelope contractor that operates across North America with annual sales of $1B. He has over 30 years of experience and extensive knowledge of architectural panels, metal cladding and roofing as well as curtain wall systems.

Don is a Civil Engineering graduate of McMaster University and is a long-standing member of the North American Light Gauge Steel Design Standard technical committee. He is also a member of CSC, OBEC and has earned his LEED AP designation.

Marina Vrzalkovski, B.Arch
Senior Business Development Manager, Flynn Group of Companies

With her initiative and drive, Marina is a swiss army knife of experience. Architecture, interiors, design, estimating, project management, business development, marketing, municipal affairs, business strategy and corporate advisor, there is always a challenge that she can rise to. She has recently focused her talents on driving the industry toward change and innovation. Working at Flynn Canada, Marina is leading a team focused on prefabricated building envelope performance and modular construction.
