The second edition of CSA S478, Durability in Buildings, was issued in 2019. This edition has been developed as a Standard so that it can be referenced in the National Building Code of Canada (NBC). This Standard sets forth requirements to assist designers in creating durable buildings. This Standard emphasizes the need to consider maintenance and replaceability in the selection of materials and components. This standard also includes an Annex that introduces climate change considerations and potential effects on building elements.
David will lead a discussion that will include highlights from the Standard and to share thoughts on how this standard is expected to impact our industry.
The first edition of CSA A440.6, High Exposure Fenestration Installation is scheduled for publication in Spring 2020.
This standard is intended to apply to the installation of fenestration products in all new and existing buildings of four or more storeys.
This standard will address installation and testing requirements for combination fenestration products not adequately covered in current codes and standards.
This standard also includes resources such as a Material Compatibility/ Adhesion Matrix, Product Pre-Delivery/Pre-Installation/Installation and Post- Installation Checklists, and an Annex on Climate Change Effects on the Durability of Fenestration Products.
