Lessons from the Past…Good and Bad

Speaker: Paul Sandori, Sandori Consulting

Paul has acted as expert witness or mediator/arbitrator in numerous lawsuits. In his presentation,
he will focus on the design and construction choices that led to those or similar disputes.

10 Years of Injustice

Speaker: Gerry Genge, Arbitech Inc. & Pretium GRG Building Engineers

If you are called upon to act in the role of technical expert, you may find yourself embroiled
in assignments that become complicated by the administrative and legal process. The costs
to survive the ordeal involved far more than the cost to repair. Jerry will tell the true story of
a small claim concerning how the owners of a small home with a faulty building envelope
system were forced to live through a mediated partial settlement and partial repair, a second
legal action against the owner’s first of two lawyers, a trial within a trial before a jury, a
judge that was out of control, and an appeal and cross appeal to the Ontario Court of Appeal
to eventually come out a winner.

Building Science: It’s All About You

Speaker: Kim Pressnail, University of Toronto

Does the world seem different when you look at it through “building science eyes”?
Join Kim Pressnail as he explores our everyday world seen through a building
science lens. There are surprising insights to be gained from this
approach – it changes not only how you see the world but also how
you see building science, and the take-aways in terms of practical
applications can be both important and useful.
