February 10, 2016 -
Masonry Building Retrofits (ARGILE project)
The presentation will focus on several building science research projects that were recently completed or are ongoing at George Brown College's Casa Loma Campus. State-of-the-art lab facilities at George Brown are designed for materials testing, computer modelling, and assembly development all with the aim of improving the performance of buildings. All research projects involve students and are done with the support of College's many Industry partners. The main research project that was recently completed focused on the development of a new and innovative re-cladding for doublewythe solid masonary brick buildings, which are very common to Toronto and other Canadian cities. The presentation will include discussion of best technologies for achieving energy efficiency within the constraints associated with vintage buildings.
